Making learning musical spellings fun

Filed under: General — Joe Brewer @ 12:30 pm

One of the problems that I found with the relative pitch ear training course was the monotonous exercises – especially learning the spellings of the intervals. The way that David Burge recommends learning how to spell the intervals correctly is to sing up and down a scale naming the notes, but I found this quite boring. For some reason I dont mind singing “la” to the notes though.

Being a great believer in making learning fun, I have written a page that tests the spelling of every interval (minor second to major seventh) which has helped me learn the spelling much more quickly. Each test presents ten random musical spellings based on the interval(s) that are selected at the start of the test.
