Blogging
With apologies to anyone who is actually reading this stuff…. time seems to fly by, and without updates to this site.
I have a few updates in the next few days to let you (the loyal reader) into what I have actually been doing with my time….

Hull
I’m really tired at the moment, which I don’t suppose is a bad thing since I have to get up at some unworldly hour tomorrow morning and drive up to Hull to help with the office move. Hopefully everything will go smoothly so I can come back on Sunday afternoon to see Levinia.
The ear training isn’t going as quickly as I would like. I really need to get a move on with this as I was progressing quite well – perfect fifths, perfect forths and major thirds were all coming along well, and I was able to recall the sounds up and down from these intervals. I need to push myself to get back on track with this when I get back.

evt2mid – Yamaha Electone Software
Several years ago I owned a Yamaha EL90. This was (and still is) a fabulous instrument, however, one of the problems I had with it was that it didn’t save the performance data as MIDI files. I searched the internet for a way to convert the .evt file that the electone generates and found this page. A good starting point I thought, but there were bugs in the code, and there was only a dos version of the convertor.
A few weeks after I found this code I had corrected the code and created a version that ran under Windows. You can download the software here: evt2mid. You are free to distribute this software, so long as no changes are made to it. No warranty of any kind is either implied or offered.
So there you have it…. a utility for converting a .evt into a midi file.
I tried to compile the source code yesterday, but for some reason it failed. One day I’ll look into this, and if I get it to compile I’ll release it. Otherwise this remains under wraps for now.
If you like (and use) this software, and feel the urge, you are welcome to send me a donation via paypal. Don’t feel you have to though.

Stuff
It’s so annoying when you cant think of a suitable subject for a particular blog – please excuse this one, it’s quite late at the moment and I’ve had a few beers.
I got quite a bit done today. I had promised to update my brother’s website quite a while ago, and thought I had might as well get the updates out of the way. Have a look here: John Brewer Photography – I added a gallery for the restoration work that he does. I initially thought that this was going to take quite some time to think through and implement, but as it turned out I was able to add all of the required functionality in about 4 hours.
I’m aiming to take the major thirds exam tomorrow, with some initial warm up exercises and testing with Levinia tomorrow. It’s been quite a while since I took and passed the perfect forths exam now, and I want to move on with this.
Many years ago I owned a Yamaha Electone EL90 (a home organ for the uninitiated). I have since out grown the instrument as I have a three manual classical organ now, but at the time I wrote some windows software for converting the evt files that the organ created into midi files – this was very useful for printing out the music of perfomances. I also wrote some windows software for cataloging performances and registrations. I will shortly be releasing this software (with the source code) once I reinstall the compiler so that people can download the software without having to compile it themselves, and once I find a suitable license to release it under.
I have been invited to a barbeque at Levinia’s parents house tomorrow. I’m actually looking forward to this – probably because we are starting to do more “coupley” things together – I like that 🙂
