Catch Up

Filed under: General — Joe Brewer @ 2:53 pm

Wowsers! How time flies when you’re suppose to be updating a blog regulaly! I initially intended to blog every few days (once a week at a minimum), and here we are at the end of May.

Well, I suppose I need to put down what I have been up to….

I am still on Major Thirds, but I can now confidently sing up and down from any note a Perfect Fifth, Perfect forth and Major third. I am aiming to take the Major third exam by the end of the week – I just need to learn the spellings a bit better.

I have been dating. I met a girl called Levinia on the Yahoo dating site on my birthday, and we have been seeing each other regulaly since then. I’ve met other girls on various dating sites of course, but this is the first girl that has been in the same county with similar interests! We are getting along like a house on fire 🙂

Sunday evening I was stung in the chest by a hornet. Luckily there was no swelling, but it did sting for a good five to six hours. Levinia had bought me back to my flat and I threw on a sweater which had been hanging in the garden which unknown to me at the time contained the little blighter – it didnt take long for it to let me know that it didnt want to share the sweater with me! I lifted up the sweater (pretty damn quickly!), it stung me and then dropped to the floor, where Levinia stamped on it. I’ll get a picture of the hornet and post it in a few days.

I’ll post again in another few days as I have other bits of random news to blog about. In the mean time you can have a look at some picture in a gallery I have setup here: Brew’s Gallery

Ear Training Issues

Filed under: General — Joe Brewer @ 1:03 pm

Well, this ear training malarkey is proving slightly more challenging than I first thought. While I am getting more confident, it is taking a good couple of days for my brain to take on board a new interval.

One of the issues that I am encountering is that I am finding it difficult to sing up an interval, and then sing up again with the same interval. What I have found is that for perfect fifths, when I try and sing up a perfect fifth from the first one, if I'm not concentrating I'll sing a perfect forth. With the major thirds, when I try and sing up a major third from a major third, I'll nearly always sing a minor third.

Gonna see if I can find some other musos who know a thing or two about this to see if this is a common problem, and also whether there are any other exercises I can do to make my ear more aware.

Pink Floyd’s Pulse – coming to a DVD player near you soon…

Filed under: General — Joe Brewer @ 1:17 pm

At last, Pink Floyd have decided to release this incredible concert on DVD. I’m not sure why it has taken so long for this to be released as its been available on VHS for ages. I suppose it could have been a marketing ploy as people that have had the VHS version would have needed to buy several copies due to them waring them out – yes it’s that good!

Right from the start with “Shine on you crazy diamond”, through works from “The division bell” to every song from “The dark side of the moon” Pink Floyd show that they are indeed masters at putting on a show with lighting, video effects and fine musicianship. This is probably the greatest ever stage production a rock-concert has ever had.

And it looks like the US are going to be treated to this DVD a few months earlier than us Brits – Amazon.com have a release date of June instead of October which Amazon.co.uk is reporting.
